Just Emma....

My baby is growing ... rapidly.

Okay, just had to get that out. I'm really not sad, I love seeing my sweetie pie grow. But as I feel her losing her infancy, I can't help but think of the fact that I'll never have another baby... ever.

I don't want to dismiss that she is still a baby. She is. She's small and cute, chubby and makes the cutest little coos.

But the infant that I brought home almost 7 months ago, is quickly disappearing.

And... I'm okay...or at least I will be.

I know this because I know I'll have grand babies one day and although it won't be quite the same I'll still be able to get that baby love cup filled.

So, now that I've gotten all the sentimental fluff out of the way ...

You have 2 bottom teeth and you are currently getting in a top incisor.

You eat really well. You pretty much skipped the pureed food stage and went straight to eating textured food.

You eat about 3 meals a day.

Right now you will take either 2 shorter naps, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Or you will take one really long nap at lunchtime.

You sleep well but still wake up a few times.

You are usually asleep at around 7:00 or 7:30 and wake up every morning at 7:00.

A couple of weeks ago you started sitting up and now you are really good at it.

You can get into the crawling position from the sitting position.

Within the last 2 days you have started really trying to crawl.

You can pull up onto your knees.

You give kisses when asked (and it's so stinkin' cute). Or maybe I should say 'you give kisses when asked, when you feel like it'.

You will wave.

You take big girl baths.

You still have your pretty blue eyes.

You will reach out to be held.

I know I'm probably forgetting a few things. But last but not least here's a video from earlier today of my sweet little lady trying to crawl.

Banana Trick

Awhile back I saw this awesome little trick on Pinterest and I've been using it ever since.

We love making and drinking shakes around here. Usually I'll throw in half a banana but one problem I was running into was the bananas ripening so fast and getting mushy.

I know some people love mushy bananas but not us!

This trick is awesome for keeping your bananas around longer without ripening so fast.

All you have to do when you get home from the grocery store is instead of just putting your bananas in your fruit basket.

Separate them from the stem first.

When you separate them from the stem they last so much longer.

I have no idea why but it's great!

Have you seen my Avacado Trick?

Cucumber Sandwiches

Here's another quick little recipe that I made for Aubrey's party.

It's embarrassingly simple but yet oh so gooood.

You will need:

  • Cream Cheese
  • Chives
  • White or Whole Wheat Bread
  • Cucumber

Start by cutting off some fresh chives.

Mince them up really well.

About an hour before you make this you will want to set out your cream cheese so it can soften up a bit.

Then you will mix you chives into your cream cheese.

Peel your cucumber and then thinly slice.

Cut off your bread crusts and then apply a layer of your cream cheese mixture.

Layer on your cucumber.

And voila! Done!

These are so good yall!

Birthday Breakdown

If the before and after photo's of Aubreys 5th birthday party are any indication of how fun it was,

the party must have been craaaazzy fun. Just see for yourself:

Awww, so cute and sweet!!

Lawwwdy!! What the heck happened here??!!

This picture doesn't even show the devastation she did to her pretty dress.

Needless to say she had a wonderful time. She was so excited to come home and play with all of her nice things she received.

I wanted to do a butterfly themed party but also keep it really simple.

I purchased butterfly nets from Target, 1 for each child. These served two purposes, one was to be a party favor for the kids to take home and the other was for the kids to collect their cocoons in.

We had a cocoon hunt to go along with the butterfly theme. Basically it was Easter eggs but work with me here people. The kids ran around collecting the 'cocoon's' and put them into their nets.

Here were the 'cocoon's' which were filled with sticky hands, monster puppets and candy.

It was cute and fun and Aubrey said it was her favorite part.

I also purchased a lot of butterfly decor from the dollar tree. It was the perfect time to have a butterfly theme because they had all kinds of spring decor that had butterfly's on it.

If you've been on Pinterest I'm sure you've seen all the awesome rainbow cupcakes out there. Here are the ones I made :

Extremely cute and simple!

Make your cupcakes, after they have cooled completely you will want to color the majority of your icing blue for the sky. The rest you will leave white.

Layer on your 'sky' and then put two dollops of white icing on each side for the clouds.

I bought these Air Head Extremes at Target to use as the rainbows:

You can't get much easier than that!

Thank you to everyone that came and shared her special day with us, we are thankful for each and every one of you!

Peanut Butter Fruit Dip Recipe

I made this recipe for Aubrey's 5th Birthday Party. Unfortunately I never had the chance to serve it.

You see, I'm a little clumsy.

I had been holding my fruit tray in my lap along with some cupcakes while Hubby was driving to the pavilion that we were hosting the party at. As I hopped out of my seat I meant to set these things on the roof of the car but instead I threw it right through the open rear window onto poor Emma's lap.

Uhhh....yeahh. Didn't need the fruit dip.

Fortunately the kids and I enjoyed it later in the evening when we were home.

Overall the kids and I really liked it. We ate it with cantaloupe and apples.

Hubby hated it and wouldn't touch it after one bite. So I guess it all depends on your preference.

For me the taste was great with the fruit.

I had tried it while I was making and didn't think it was going to be too good. It left a weird aftertaste in my mouth but when I paired it with he fruit the aftertaste was gone and it was really good.

This is what you will need:

  • 1 (8 ounce) carton sour cream
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • ¼ cup milk
  • tablespoons honey
  • teaspoon cinnamon
I used a 16 oz carton of sour cream so I doubled everything.

  1. 1
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl, stirring well. Cover and chill thoroughly. Serve dip with an assortment of fresh fruit. (Apple and Banana seem to go over best with children!).

Here is your finished product:

Birth Day...

Yes, I baked that cake. Don't judge!! I was still learning!!

My 'baby' turned 5 last Monday.

Dear Aubrey,

Everything I know about being a parent ... I've learned from you.

You taught me how to hold you and bathe you.

How to rock you and soothe you.

How to change a diaper and swaddle flailing arms.

You taught me how to kiss a boo boo and make it better.

Even the times where I had no idea what to do,

you taught me.

And as Daddy and I watched you grow, we grew as well.

When you walked we cheered and when you talked we laughed.

You are such a good big sister and we know you will continue to be an amazing role model for your brother and sister. God had a plan for you when he made you first born.

We love you so much,

Happy 5th Birthday!!

Since my last post about clearing out the clutter,

I've been going through a bunch of my old Tupperware bins that I've had for-ever. I've been able to throw away a lot of things that I've been holding onto for no reason but I've also found lots of 'treasures' to laugh about.

Like my very first cell phone that my parents gave me for Christmas when I was 16.

Aubrey actually asked me if it was a walkie talkie!

Lots of old Nintendo games.

And oh yes, I was a member of the safety patrol. WALK, DON'T RUN!!

I've found so many little notes and things that I wrote when I was a kid to laugh at.

Like this diary entry:

HAHA! I hope my Brother reads this and gets a good laugh.

And did you ever play MASH??

Okay, now if that were true:

I would be married to Jonathan Taylor Thomas, we would have our honeymoon in Hawaii. He would have worn a gray tux and I would have had a blue wedding dress. We would have 4 kids, living in a brick house with a cat. I would also be a billionaire actress.

I don't know about all the rest but the billionaire part would be great!

I found lots of letters that I wrote to people and places but this one was my fav!

I wanted to be a Power Ranger soooo dang bad!!!!

But this next one has got to be my favorite.

It was an essay I had written
 about my summer.

Now, there are a few things I'd like to point out about this:

1. The amount of times I use the word fort in the same sentence. Fort building was an integral part of my growing up as you can see. And as I'm looking at this I've realized that the whole essay is 1 sentence! HAHA, I don't think there is one period throughout that whole excerpt.

The next thing that stands out is where it says climbed trees and then it cuts off a word.

That word is HAD and if you finish the sentence it says

'had trees fall on me'.

TRUE STORY, my Brother thought it would be a great idea to throw a rope over a tree limb and make it into a see-saw with him on one end and me on the other. My brother was a big boy and with him trying to hoist me up the tree limb snapped and landed on my head and I'm pretty sure I was knocked unconscious for a few minutes.

We then resumed playing.

And last but not least did you notice this part!!??

Also a true story! That's right my brother had knives as a kid and he lived to tell about it! GASP!!

We were country kids, we walked around barefoot, drank from a hose, played in the woods, everything your read we did and a whole lot more.

I was probably five or six when my brother was outside throwing some of his knives at trees. Now these were hunting knives and utility type knives but I wanted to play too so I ran inside and grabbed one of my Mom's steak knives out of the drawer and started trying to throw it at the tree. Only when I threw it, it didn't hit the tree and I looked all around me but I couldn't find it!!

That's when my brother pointed at me and said:

And it was! Instead of sticking it in the tree I had thrown it right down into my own leg.

It was very superficial and not deep at all even though I still have the scar!

I pulled it out and went to hunt down my Mom.

Did she rush me to the hospital?

Call the Dr.???

You know what she did?

She washed it off in the sink and told me not to do it again and sent me back outside to play.

Ohh the good ol' days.

I have some really great memories of summer as a kid. I hope that when my kids are old enough to write an essay about summer it will be just like this one... except the knife in the leg, not that part.

Avocado Trick

We love avocado around here. LOVE!

We love it plain, with salt, in salad, on fajitas, anyway you can eat it we do.

My little lady has embraced our love of this yummy goodness by taking a liking to it herself.

But have you noticed that if you don't eat the whole thing right away it turns a yucky nasty brown color?

I do not want Emma getting used to eating anything brown so here's a cool trick to keep your avocado's looking fresh.

All you have to do is keep the pit with your slices.

That's all!!

Making guacamole? Keep your pit with your dip and it will still look great even the next day!

I've been cutting one up at a time for Emma to eat on for a few days and this trick works like a charm.

This was the next day. Still looks great!

Someone is Older Than Me!!!

Today my best friend turns 28 years old.

I wanted to write a post all about him but the words are not coming. It's hard to put in writing all the emotions that come when I think of him.

So, in short ... he is my best friend and partner, forever and always. He has been the best companion that God could have ever chosen for me. He evens me out, compensates for my short comings and is my other half.

He is a wonderful Daddy, he plays and teaches and cares.

He works hard to provide for our family and has given me the greatest gift that I could have ever asked for... Staying home with my babies.

Through thick and thin, he has never given up on me or our family.

We laugh together and at each other and I love that. He has seen me at my worst and yet he's still here...

I love him so much.

While he and Brandon went on an errand today, Aubrey and I decided to make him a little treat. Hubby is weird and doesn't really like cake so we made him some chocolate covered strawberries.

Happy Birthday Hunny, I love you so much!

Awesome Blog Alert

I found an awesome blog the other day, you must go now and check it out.

Since we are hoping...praying....waiting on our future home I've been consumed with all things home and garden. We are making plans and dreaming dreams while we wait on the short sale we are trying to buy.

Since I found this website I've been going there nonstop. It's everything to do with paint color. After living in a townhouse rental with nothing but white walls I cannot wait to paint the walls in our new house.

Click here to check it out. It's called Favorite Paint Colors and it's so beautiful. It collects beautfiul pictures from all over blog land and combines them into one spot to feast your eyes on.

It's perfect because it allows you to see the paint in a normal setting.

So here are some colors I might paint the house that we don't have yet but maybe, possibly soon:

I am absolutely painting Aubrey and Emma's room this color. It's so beautiful, I love pale pink and I think it would fit them now as well as in the future when they are, dare I say it - TEENAGERS. It's called White Dogwood by Sherwin Williams.

How about this for a dining room? Beautiful.
It's called Secret Passage by Olympic Paint

I like this one for a dining room too, it's called Sharkey Gray by Martha Stewart.

I think this color would be so pretty for the bathroom, it's Mountain Laurel by Benjamin Moore.

This would be perfect for Brandon's room, it's Blue Marguerite by Benjamin Moore.

So there you have it, now I'm going to get the paint. I just need the house!
